Finding ease.
When improvising with acrobatics, floor work, and other elements, it can be overwhelming and an overload for the system when all these elements are new.
What helps me avoid it becoming a “hot mess” is following the “less is more” approach. Breaking things down slowly before jumping into improv is key. It’s important to expose yourself to many elements so your improvisation becomes rich with variety, giving you more “options.” It also prevents you from fixating on one routine or set of movements, which can become stale after a while (at least for me).
That said, each element deserves its due time. How do I know when an element is “good enough”? You’ll feel it when the coordination and movement come together, it will feel lighter and less confusing. There should be a little bit less effort and more ease.
